Easter Meal

This Easter, we embarked on the momentous task of providing food for 2000 prisoners. We purchased enough rice sacks to fill the back of a truck …

bought numerous sacks of beans, 100 kg of meat, several gunny sacks of moringa greens, onions, garlic, oil, salt, cans of tomato paste and liters upon liters of oil. The Director of the Prison offered to provide cooking staff and fuel. Collaborating and sharing responsibilities has always been the cornerstone of our partnership. Easter was the perfect day to test the new stoves.

One old man said,

“In all of my years here, I have seen nothing like this. This is a first. Noone has ever offered each and every one of us a delicious meal. Thank you.”

Kids thanking us for the food and Easter candy

The following day I happened on prisoners and staff preparing the “meal of the day”. Sacks of moldy manioc were dumped onto the muddy kitchen floor - tubers grabbed, peeled, rinsed and and tossed into a vat of orphanage-brown boiling water. Ugg.

On the happiest note, no one can get over the fact that we have WATER!!!!

Being able to wash clothes in flowing water is an Easter victory.

Thank you again and again to the donors for this specific day.
